The Village at Westfield Topanga

Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) released for Westfield-Costco project!

Late last year city officials announced a "done" deal with Westfield and Costco, including a standard box style Costco
as their "anchor retailer" in Warner Center. This is not the same "Village" concept dangled in front of us a few years ago.
After nearly a year of diligent work, our Neighborhood Council and the Planning, Land Use & Mobility (PLUM)
committee are still not satisfied with the inflexibility of the developers to understand the community needs and expectations.
Westfield and Costco plan to occupy a prime corner with an unattractive box building, a huge gas station, tire center and auto sales
at Victory and Owensmouth, with 20 gas pumps as the corner feature. This lackluster Plan B is the vanished village concept.

A new Costco in Melbourne, Australia (shown above) overcomes the conventional attitude about big box retailing.
Warner Center's Costco does not have to symbolize a massive shed with a sea of concrete and massive structure for parking.
See the link below for a slideshow of the innovative Costco design in Australia.

Since the DEIR for the Westfield - Costco project is available for review, we have created and made available several
informative documents to make it easier to understand the issues and the impact to our community, including a comment
letter from SOS in response to the DEIR. Take a look at the downloads below for the location of the DEIR and for
recommendations of the PLUM committee and to familiarize yourself with the Business Enterprise Zone secret.
We encourage all community members to learn more about the Westfield project and to participate in decisions
regarding future development in Woodland Hills and Warner Center.
