Recent Burglaries!

The following are text from actual emails sent to Save Oak Savanna to help warn our
neighbors of some recent unfortunate incidents on our area:

1
Today there was a Door knocker at my door at 5801 Fairhaven Ave.
At 4:30 pm a young white male in his early 20s, 5’7” 150 thin, buzz cut hair brown possibly lighter;
Possibly an octopus tattoo on left forearm;
Wearing bell bottom blue jeans at least 3 inches too long and a Pendleton type shirt in plaid yellow and black.
He was selling, asking for donations for, troop care packages presumably for Smartraiser.com.
I told him to get the proper information card from the city of LA. And that soliciting donations in LA required it.
He continued to knock on doors. I called dispatch and followed.
He said he would leave and call his “Mom” to come pick him up.
His mom turned out to be a white guy same build, driving a Ford passenger van Tennessee license # 988 WND
I followed for a short time then they attempted to lose me and traveled out of the neighborhood.
I called and told dispatch that they were gone and there was no need to send a car.
They looked like shady characters.

To all our neighbors, please see email below, and be aware that there have been a lot of robberies
in our area recently, and the police have told me that one crew can hit 3 homes a day in our area,
as the homes are set back, and larger lots and secluded back yards.
We have been traveling a lot lately, so I haven’t gotten my notice out to you sooner, but we were also
robbed last month. We believe that they saw me (stupidly) loaded luggage into the back of our SUV
and I left the back hatch up for 10 min. with the bags in the car. We also (stupidly again) left our alarm off
since we were having a dog/house sitter stay at the house. (We should have given them a “maid’s code”)
They hit a few hours after we were gone, and we believe the sitter came in during the robbery.
The police said they usually have 1 guy (often a young guy) ring the bell. If no answer then they go around
the back, and if it looks like no one is home they break in, and grab money, jewelry and guns,
put it in a pillow case or backpack and call for a car to come get them.
This way it doesn’t look suspicious with a strange car parked at the house.

Please be careful, and send this on to all of your family and friends.

Thank you for sharing the warning and for your advice about being vigilant. One evening about 10PM,
our doorbell rang and the caretaker for my father answered it before we could tell him not to open the door.
There were two seemingly well dressed people, a man and a woman, probably in their 20's, standing there.
They claimed their car was stuck and wanted to know if we had jumper cables. I quickly closed the door
and called the police. Something was not right about them. The man was not "dressed for this area," and the
woman was smirking. When the police arrived, a number of neighbors on our cul de sac came out to tell
their stories. It seems these people had stopped at their homes, too. At one house, the owner said something
about not having jumper cables and the couple then responded, "Don't worry; we have them,
can you help us get a jump start?" They had contradicted their first story.
We all felt as though our homes were being cased and we are all still frightened.

We all need to be careful.
